From the Double-Black-Diamond rated Echo Canyon Trail, we’ll complete a warm-up hike to a prominent mountain saddle overlooking an incredible view of Paradise Valley and Scottsdale. Next, we’ll stair-climb an incline of 75 railroad ties, scale the 45-degree Twin Rail sections and scramble on two boulder fields before reaching the mountain summit.
We’ll celebrate with refreshments, take in the amazing views and take some incredible summit-bagging shots, including what’s considered the ultimate cliff-side summit photo opp! On the descent, we’ll explore Secret Cave and Surface of Mars Butte before down-climbing the route on Red Rock Slope—three special natural rock features that are off the beaten track on the mountain. What to Expect
- Difficulty: Very Strenous
- Duration: 3-4 hours
- Meeting times: 5-7 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. depending on the season
- Meeting location: Your guide will meet you outside the Echo Canyon Trailhead building off E. McDonald Drive or at Cholla Trailhead. Please note that the parking lot is sometimes full and you may have to wait for a parking spot. Getting a ride to the trailhead is highly recommended.
- Drop-offs: Uber and Lyft drop-off and pick-up service available
What to Bring
- Closed-toe footwear such as running, cross-training or hiking shoes with good tread and grip. No sandals please.
- Long-sleeved layers for sun protection and in case it's chilly
- Sunglasses
- Hat or cap
